Thousands of Library Titles from iN DEMAND Now Available Via HITS On Demand Content Distribution Network

May 31, 2012 - HITS and iN DEMAND announced today an agreement to make thousands of titles licensed by iN DEMAND available via the HITS® On Demand Content Distribution Network.
The content from iN DEMAND, a leading distributor of transactional Video On Demand (VOD) for the industry, includes movies from major studios and independent filmmakers. HITS® On Demand Content Distribution Network, a new cloud-based solution from HITS, offers third party operators additional on demand library content without the need for them to upgrade their local storage.
With the additional titles, these operators have new opportunities to attract more viewers on existing VOD platforms and further monetize their on demand investments. In addition, the asset-based solution should help to keep cable subscribers using the cable infrastructure rather than turning to other options for long-tail content.
“Making this content available via the HITS platform is a great benefit to Independent Cable Operators, by improving their competitive position and helping to generate incremental revenue,” said Bob Benya, President & CEO of iN DEMAND.
For more than 15 years, HITS has been pioneering centralized content distribution services for cable operators. The HITS On Demand Content Distribution Network uses centralized content hosting, edge caches and VOD servers to maximize local storage. The new platform supports today’s widely deployed MPEG-2 set top boxes (STBs), bringing extensive on demand content to subscribers’ homes without replacing or installing customer premise equipment in digital cable households.
“Working with iN DEMAND allows HITS to offer thousands of additional on demand titles to our cable affiliates,” said Leslie Russell, Vice President and General Manager of HITS.  “Making this type of long-tail entertainment available through a cloud-based environment allows operators to fulfill the demand for deeper library content without buying or maintaining more storage locally.  It is a natural fit for HITS, which continuously develops solutions designed to reduce up-front investment and maximize operator return.”
